Fishing Report

DSC02848Fishing the past few weeks on Houghton Lake has been tremendous. Limits of Bluegill, Crappie and Walleye are being caught daily. If you are a Bass fisherman Largemouth and Smallmouth in the channels have been fairing well with some limits exceeding 18lb stringers. If you get a chance it is a great time of year to be on Houghton Lake fishing or just finally enjoying warmer weather. Take Care and BE SAFE ON THE WATER!

Winter is in full Swing

Well winter has arrived in all its glory!!  Houghton Lake currently has over 14inches of ice and plenty of snow. The bluegill an walleye fishing has been well above average. Snowmobile trails have been groomed and the best I have seen them this early in years. With Tip Up Town only a few weeks out grab your fishing gear and sleds and head to one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Michigan. Take care and be safe in this New Year!

Fall Outdoor Activities

With the leaves changing colors and falling, the flights of woodcocks are improving daily. On a 4 hour hunt Saturday we had a flush of over 30 woodcocks with a bonus of Half dozen partridge flushes. The rut activity is early in its stages but it is beginning to say the least, with the bachelor buck groups breaking apart. Activity will be improving daily with peak rut right around the corner. Right now is a good time to get to the woods and establish your hunting territory.
Duck hunting has been good and improving with the light rains and low clouds.
Fall is a great time to get outside and enjoy what mother nature has to offer in all her glory!! Come on up and enjoy a night, weekend or week at the Crest Resort..

Take Care and Enjoy

Winter Update

Winter activities are in full swing snowmobiling and Ice Fishing are running hot. Snowmobile Trails are being groomed continuously as long as the snow continues to cooperate. Crowds are gathering on the Ice trying to catch the elusive Walleye and Northern Pike. Guests have reported Northern Pike being caught along the weed edges while the walleye are hanging tight to drop offs with rocky edges. By the way, have you heard the DNR has passed a new regulation allowing spearing on Houghton Lake. With the snow covering the woods rabbit hunting has been hot with dogs or just beating the brush. Come stay a day or week and enjoy the great winter activities Houghton Lake and The Crest Resort has to offer. *With all the State Land surrounding Houghton Lake don’t forget Turkey permit applications are due by Feb 1st *
